One detail actually explains this resistance: collagen is rich in proline and hydroxyproline, two amino acids whose ring structure resists digestive enzymes. Peptides containing them therefore survive the digestive journey better than average.
When the peptide becomes a signal
This is where the logic shifts. Reduced to amino acids, a peptide plays only one role: that of building block. Arriving intact, it can do something more: speak to cells.
Two small peptides derived from collagen are particularly studied for this purpose: Pro-Hyp (proline-hydroxyproline) and Hyp-Gly. A study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry showed that after ingestion of hydrolyzed collagen, the tripeptide Gly-Pro-Hyp and its Pro-Hyp form are found at high concentration in the bloodstream and in the skin, their transport depending on the PEPT1 transporter.
Once there, these peptides act as messengers. A review published in 2020 in Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology describes Pro-Hyp as a low molecular weight factor capable of initiating the growth of specific fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing the skin matrix.
Hence the most accurate image to summarize: standard collagen provides mainly building blocks, collagen rich in small intact peptides provides the building blocks and the construction plan.
An honest clarification is necessary: these mechanisms are documented, but most of the clinical data concerns Measured results (wrinkles, hydration, elasticity) rather than on the demonstrated role of each peptide in humans. According to Seong and colleagues 2023 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, a randomized placebo-controlled trial on 100 adults measured significant improvement in wrinkles, elasticity, and hydration after 12 weeks of low molecular weight peptides low molecular weight. This is the general principle, not a brand's performance.

This is the marker that really separates product ranges, because obtaining it requires a more advanced hydrolysis process. Very few brands display it. When a stated percentage of tripeptides is announced, it's a sign of a next-generation ingredient.
The source and patented ingredient
The source (marine, bovine, porcine) provides information on purity and traceability, marine source being valued for its profile. Most importantly, a named patented ingredient means you can trace back to its documentation and studies, instead of an anonymous "collagen."
The actual dose delivered
