Frequently asked questions
What does Shilajit taste like?
Shilajit has a unique taste, often described as earthy and slightly bitter without being unpleasant, with a smoky note. This taste profile may be surprising at first, but many quickly get used to it. For those who find the taste too strong, it can be mixed with juice or a hot drink to mask the flavor.
What is the origin of Shilajit?
Shilajit is a unique natural substance that originates in the high mountains of the world.
Here is a detailed exploration of its origin and formation:
1. A resin from the mountains
Shilajit comes mainly from the following mountain ranges:
- Himalayas: Considered the purest cradle of Shilajit, particularly in the regions of Nepal, India, and Bhutan.
- Altai: Located in Siberia, this massif also produces a nutrient-rich version of Shilajit.
- Caucasus: The mountains located in Eurasia provide high-quality Shilajit.
- Andes and Tibetan mountains: These regions also contribute to the global supply of Shilajit.
The harsh climate, high altitudes and unique geological formations of these mountains are crucial factors in the genesis of Shilajit.
2. Natural formation over thousands of years
Shilajit forms thanks to a complex biological and geological process:
- Decomposition of plant matter: For centuries, ancient plants and trees are "trapped" in the cracks of mountain rocks, where they undergo slow decomposition under the effect of pressure and extreme climatic conditions.
- Mineral transformation: The decomposing plant matter mixes with minerals, resins and organic compounds present in the rocks.
- Tectonic pressure: The movements of the earth's plates, combined with natural erosion, promote the exudation of this brown-black substance through the cracks of the rocks, known as Shilajit.
This process, which can last several thousand years, explains the exceptional richness in nutrients of Shilajit.
3. Factors influencing Shilajit quality
The purity and quality of Shilajit depend on several criteria:
- Region of origin: The Himalayan mountains, due to their high altitude and low pollution, produce a particularly pure Shilajit.
- Harvesting methods: Raw Shilajit is often collected by local experts, but it contains impurities such as rocky debris and heavy metals that must be eliminated.
- Purification techniques: Purification consists of removing impurities while preserving essential nutrients, an essential process to guarantee its safety and efficacy.
Poorly purified Shilajit can contain harmful contaminants, hence the importance of choosing certified and tested products.
4. Link with traditional medicine
Shilajit is mentioned in ancient texts of Ayurvedic medicine under the name "Rasa Shastra", where it is qualified as a "Rasayana", that is, a substance capable of regenerating body and mind. According to these texts, its power is directly linked to its Himalayan origin, where it is considered a gift from the mountains to strengthen vitality and longevity.
5. A rare and precious substance
Due to its natural origin and the slowness of its formation process, Shilajit is a rare resource. Responsible exploitation is essential to preserve mountain ecosystems, which makes it a precious and highly sought-after substance worldwide.
6. A fascinating discovery thanks to animals
According to a famous and well-documented legend in Ayurvedic texts, the discovery of Shilajit dates back centuries, when a researcher noticed peculiar behavior in monkeys in the Himalayan mountains.
- Initial observations: The monkeys seemed to have remarkable energy and health, even in difficult environments.
- The intriguing habit of the monkeys: It was noted that these animals regularly licked a dark substance that oozed from the cracks of the rocks.
- Human experimentation: Curious, the ancient researchers decided to harvest this black resin and analyze its effects. When they began consuming it, they observed a significant improvement in their physical strength, endurance and vitality.
This is how Shilajit entered traditional pharmacopoeia, where it was quickly recognized for its unique medicinal properties.
Summary
Shilajit comes from the purest and most inaccessible mountains on the planet, where it is formed over millennia by the decomposition of plant and mineral matter under the effect of extreme natural conditions. Its purity and efficacy depend on extraction and purification methods, which makes it an exceptional and precious substance for well-being.
How to recognize a quality Shilajit?
Shilajit can be classified into several quality grades, mainly based on its origin, purity, and processing method.
Here are the typical grades:
- Gold Shilajit (Gold Grade): Considered the purest and most effective. It generally comes from the highest areas of the Himalayas and contains a very high concentration of minerals and fulvates. It is rare and therefore more expensive.
- Silver Shilajit (Silver Grade): Slightly lower quality than gold grade, but still very effective. It contains a good concentration of active substances and is generally cheaper than gold grade.
- Bronze Shilajit (Bronze Grade): This grade is more common and accessible. It is generally harvested at lower altitudes and contains lower concentrations of active minerals.
- Iron Shilajit (Iron Grade): Often the most accessible and cheapest, this grade contains higher concentrations of iron. It is less pure and may include impurities that decrease its efficacy.
The quality of Shilajit can also be influenced by the extraction and purification process. A well-purified Shilajit, regardless of its classification, offers better health benefits compared to a poorly processed product.
The quality of Shilajit can be guaranteed by independent laboratory certifications, indicating purity and the absence of contaminants.
What are the components of Shilajit?
Shilajit comes from the decomposition of plant and mineral matter over thousands of years, which gives it a richness in nutrients and bioactive compounds essential for well-being.

It is also advised to take regular breaks, for example by following a cycle of a few weeks of use followed by a week of break, in order to avoid any risk of mineral overload.
What are the clinically proven benefits of Shilajit?
Shilajit is an ancestral natural supplement used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine, but its efficacy is no longer based solely on tradition. In recent years, numerous human clinical studies have validated its health effects, positioning it as one of the rare natural adaptogens with scientifically documented action.
Far from unverified marketing promises, this synthesis focuses solely on the benefits of Shilajit proven by clinical trials in humans, with protocol, dosage and measured results.
Each benefit presented below is based on published human data, in order to guarantee reliable, usable and credible information for any user concerned about real efficacy.
Energy and reduction of fatigue
Shilajit is recognized for increasing energy and combating fatigue. Clinical trials suggest that it can improve symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and the quality of life of patients suffering from persistent fatigue. Furthermore, an 8-week randomized double-blind trial (63 active men, 500 mg of purified Shilajit per day) demonstrated improved muscle performance: the Shilajit group retained significantly more strength after a fatiguing exercise compared to placebo. These results indicate that Shilajit can act as an ergogenic agent by supporting the production of ATP (cellular energy) and mitochondrial function, hence a gain in energy and a reduction of fatigue during physical efforts.
Increased testosterone
Among the most notable benefits of Shilajit is its effect on androgenic hormones. A randomized double-blind controlled clinical trial evaluated purified Shilajit in healthy men aged 45 to 55 years (dose of 250 mg twice a day, for 90 days). At the end of the study, Shilajit induced a significant increase in total and free testosterone levels compared to placebo. There was also an increase in DHEA-S (dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate), a hormonal marker linked to well-being and aging, while pituitary hormones (LH, FSH) remained stable. This hormonal gain confirmed by a randomized clinical trial suggests that Shilajit can support male vigor and reproductive health, particularly in men with age-related testosterone decline.
Cognitive function and brain health
The active compounds of Shilajit, particularly fulvic acid, appear beneficial for cognition. Preliminary studies indicate that Shilajit can improve cognitive functions in elderly people or those suffering from mild cognitive impairment. The proposed mechanism is the inhibition of tau protein aggregation in the brain – the fulvic acid in Shilajit would prevent the abnormal accumulation of these proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease. By also improving synaptic function, Shilajit could thus support memory and attention.
Immune system support
Shilajit exerts an immunomodulatory effect due to its richness in nutrients and antioxidants. It contains more than 84 minerals and fulvic acid, which gives it properties allowing it to improve the body's immune response. For example, it acts as a protective antioxidant for immune cells and could stimulate certain functions of innate immunity (phagocytosis of pathogens, activity of macrophages, etc.). In a recent clinical trial, the administration of Shilajit was associated with an improvement in markers of immunity (increased phagocytosis activity, complement and lysosomal enzymes) compared to placebo, suggesting a strengthening of natural defenses (preliminary results). This immune support could explain the traditional use of Shilajit to combat various ailments and its reputation as an "adaptogen" improving the overall resistance of the body.
Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects
The benefits of Shilajit include a reduction in systemic inflammation and oxidative stress, two factors linked to many chronic diseases. A clinical study on postmenopausal women showed that daily supplementation with Shilajit (250 to 500 mg for 48 weeks) significantly decreases levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a key marker of inflammation, compared to placebo. At the same time, the level of MDA (malondialdehyde) – an indicator of oxidative stress – decreased in the Shilajit group, demonstrating better neutralization of free radicals. These antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of Shilajit have also been observed in other trials (e.g., decrease in MDA in the sperm of oligospermic patients) and are largely attributed to the fulvic acid and humic compounds it contains. Thus, Shilajit could relieve mild inflammatory states and protect cells against premature aging induced by oxidative stress.
Bone health and osteoporosis
New research suggests that Shilajit contributes to bone health. A randomized double-blind clinical trial followed 60 women suffering from osteopenia (bone fragility). They received either a placebo, or purified Shilajit at 250 mg or 500 mg per day for 48 weeks. The results highlighted a dose-dependent preservation of bone mineral density (BMD) in the Shilajit groups compared to placebo. In particular, the 500 mg group showed the strongest improvement in BMD. Moreover, Shilajit reduced markers of bone remodeling (decrease in CTX-1, BALP and RANKL, increase in osteoprotegerin), as well as markers of inflammation and oxidative stress (reduced CRP and MDA) in these patients. Clearly, this 12-month clinical study confirms that Shilajit can slow post-menopausal bone loss and contribute to preventing osteoporosis, probably thanks to its anti-inflammatory effects and bone collagen synthesis stimulators.
Adaptation to high altitude (mountain sickness)
Shilajit is traditionally used by Himalayan populations to better tolerate high altitudes. A controlled clinical study validated this use: Shilajit reduces the incidence and severity of acute mountain sickness (AMS) in subjects exposed to altitude, compared to a placebo. Participants who received Shilajit presented fewer headaches, nausea, dizziness and fatigue during rapid ascent, suggesting better physiological adaptation. Researchers attribute this effect to Shilajit's ability to improve oxygen transport and use in the body as well as its anti-inflammatory properties. In summary, for travelers or mountaineers, Shilajit could offer natural protection against the symptoms of altitude hypoxia and support endurance in extreme conditions.
Scientific sources: The benefits listed above are supported only by clinical studies on humans, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals (PubMed, DOI). Each statement refers to the corresponding publication to ensure reliable and verified information, without recourse to animal or in vitro work. This approach guarantees a high level of evidence regarding the effects of Shilajit in these health areas.
What are the benefits of Shilajit for men?
In men, purified shilajit is one of the rare natural supplements whose action on testosterone is supported by clinical data. In a randomized study (Andrologia, 2016), daily intake of 500 mg for 90 days allowed an increase of more than 20% in total testosterone, and nearly 19% in free testosterone, without adverse effect.
Its most documented benefits in men include:
- Stimulating testosterone production thanks to its action on Leydig cells and the reduction of oxidative stress
- Optimizing strength and muscle mass: better protein synthesis, accelerated recovery, reduction of post-effort fatigue
- Supporting male fertility: increase in number, motility and concentration of spermatozoa (Andrologia study, 2010 on 60 infertile men)
- Effect on mood and motivation: better cortisol regulation, improvement of mental clarity and initiative
The concentrated shilajit resin, rich in bioavailable fulvic acid, is the most effective form to support these objectives
At Nutrition•pro, each batch is laboratory tested to guarantee purity, concentration and safety.
Is Shilajit suitable for women?
Yes, and this is a point often overlooked. Shilajit is not a hormonal stimulant only for men, but a systemic adaptogen. This means that it acts as overall support, adapting to the specific biological needs of the body, including the female body.
In women, shilajit can bring measurable and synergistic benefits on:
Physical vitality: reduction of chronic fatigue, lasting energy boost (mitochondrial action + ATP)
Stress and mood: regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, decrease in mental load
Skin, hair and nails: deep remineralization (zinc, iron, copper), improvement of skin radiance and hair resistance
Female cycle: indirect support of menstrual regularity and possible reduction of premenstrual symptoms (thanks to its anti-inflammatory and neuromodulatory action)
Bone density: protective effect against demineralization, particularly in pre-menopause
Mental clarity: improvement of concentration and cognitive resilience, often disrupted by hormonal variations
The highly concentrated shilajit resin is an option increasingly chosen by active, athletic women or those in hormonal transition, who want a safe, complete and effective supplement.
Note: shilajit is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in the absence of specific clinical studies.
What is the difference between Shilajit resin and capsules?
Not all forms of shilajit available on the market are equal. The main difference between shilajit resin and shilajit capsules lies in the purity, the concentration of active ingredients, and especially the bioavailability of the product.
Purified shilajit resin is considered the most natural and effective form. It is a concentrated raw extract, obtained after purification without chemical solvents. This resin is rich in fulvic acid, often more than 50%, which makes it a true concentrate of cellular energy. It contains no excipients, no additives, no manufacturing agents, which guarantees rapid action and precise dosage. Its bioavailability is excellent: a small dose diluted in hot water is enough to feel its effects.
Conversely, shilajit capsules often come from diluted or processed powders. The fulvic acid content is rarely indicated, which makes it difficult to assess its real efficacy. Moreover, the presence of coatings, additives or technological fillers can slow down its assimilation by the body. Traceability is often less rigorous, and the concentration of active ingredients much lower than in raw resin.
In summary, if you are looking for a truly active, pure, powerful and traceable shilajit, the resin remains the most recommended form. It is the one chosen by most demanding users, natural health professionals and athletes looking for concrete results.

Where to buy quality shilajit resin?
The shilajit market is unfortunately saturated with poor-quality products: diluted resins, compressed powders sold as resins, or products without any laboratory analysis. To buy a reliable shilajit resin, here are the essential criteria to check:
The fulvic acid concentration is clearly indicated. A quality shilajit displays at least 50% fulvic acids. Our resin contains 70%, certified by laboratory analysis. The product is tested by an independent laboratory. Not just a manufacturer's declaration — a real certificate of analysis (COA) issued by a recognized organization. At Nutrition•pro, each batch is analyzed by Eurofins, one of the reference laboratories in Europe. The grade is specified. Shilajit comes in several grades (Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold). Only GOLD Grade guarantees a high-altitude harvest, maximum purity and optimal concentration of active ingredients. The resin form is preferred. Resin is the most concentrated and most bioavailable form — unlike capsules often made from powders diluted with additives.
Our GOLD Grade shilajit resin is harvested at over 5,100 m in the Himalayas, purified through 40 nanometric filtrations, free of heavy metals, and made in France. It is one of the rare shilajits available that meets all of these criteria simultaneously.
Is shilajit resin organic?
This is a legitimate question, and the answer deserves to be nuanced.
Shilajit is a natural substance of mineral and plant origin, formed over thousands of years in Himalayan rocks. By nature, it does not come from any agricultural cultivation and therefore does not fall within the framework of classic organic certifications (AB, Ecocert), which apply to cultivated plants.
What really matters for a shilajit is not the "organic" label in the agricultural sense, but the purity of the product: absence of heavy metals, absence of pesticides, absence of microbiological contaminants.
Our shilajit resin meets these requirements in a documented manner:
- Absence of heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium) — attested by the Eurofins certificate of analysis
- Harvest in a pollution-free zone, at over 5,100 m altitude in the Himalayas
- No chemical solvent used during purification — 40 filtrations with micro-filtered water only
- No additive, excipient or filler agent — 100% pure resin
In summary: our shilajit is not certified "organic" in the regulatory sense of the term, because this certification does not exist for mineral substances. But it is pure, natural, traceable and analyzed — which, for a shilajit, is much more significant than a label.
