Description
The athletes' mushroom from the high Tibetan plateaus
On the Himalayan plateaus, at over 3,500 meters altitude, grows an exceptional mushroom. Cordyceps, nicknamed "yartsa gunbu" in Tibet ("winter worm, summer plant") and "Himalayan gold" in China, has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to support vitality, physical endurance and respiratory balance. Its reputation exploded in 1993 when a team of Chinese female athletes shattered several world distance records, their coach publicly attributing their performances to Cordyceps supplementation.
Our formulation uses Cordyceps militaris, the most studied cultivated form and richer in cordycepin than the wild Cordyceps sinensis species. Cordycepin is a bioactive compound unique to Cordyceps, studied for its role in cellular energy metabolism and ATP production. Several published clinical trials (Chen et al., 2014; Hirsch et al., 2016; Dewi et al., 2025) have demonstrated in humans a significant improvement in VO2max, time to exhaustion and aerobic endurance following Cordyceps supplementation.
Our Cordyceps Nutrition•pro is a concentrated 4:1 extract of Cordyceps militaris in plant-based capsules. Each bottle contains 60 capsules, providing a complete 30-day course at 2 capsules per day, for a daily intake of 1,800 mg of extract. A simple, single-ingredient formula, manufactured in France.
Cordyceps is designed for athletes, active individuals, those who practice endurance activities (running, cycling, combat sports, fitness), as well as anyone looking to regain daily energy or support their physical recovery. It fits perfectly into your morning routine or as a pre-workout: 2 capsules with a large glass of water, 30 to 60 minutes before exercise if used in a sports context.
At Nutrition•pro, we formulate dietary supplements without compromise. Cordyceps joins our range of functional mushrooms alongside Lion's Mane, Reishi, Chaga and Shiitake: five iconic mushrooms, each with its own identity, to support the different moments of your life.

Frequently asked questions
What is Cordyceps and what are its benefits?
Cordyceps is a mushroom that has been used for centuries in traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine. Nicknamed "yartsa gunbu" in Tibet ("winter worm, summer plant") and "Himalayan gold" in China, it grows naturally on high plateaus at over 3,500 meters altitude.
Our formulation uses Cordyceps militaris, the most studied cultivated form and richer in cordycepin than the wild Cordyceps sinensis species. The main studied properties of Cordyceps focus on energy support, aerobic endurance, physical recovery and the immune system.
Our Cordyceps capsule dietary supplement provides a concentrated 4:1 extract of Cordyceps militaris, at 1,800 mg per day, for easy integration into your daily routine.
What is the difference between Cordyceps militaris and Cordyceps sinensis?
Cordyceps sinensis is the wild Tibetan species, a caterpillar parasite, hand-harvested on the high Himalayan plateaus. Its rarity makes it one of the most expensive mushrooms in the world (up to €50,000/kg), and its ecosystem is threatened.
Cordyceps militaris is the form cultivated in laboratories under controlled conditions, without the use of insects. It is the species used in virtually all modern clinical studies.
Important point: Cordyceps militaris is richer in cordycepin (the flagship bioactive compound) than wild Cordyceps sinensis. It is therefore a more accessible, more sustainable, and scientifically more potent choice for modern supplementation.
Why is Cordyceps called the "athletes' mushroom"?
The athletic reputation of Cordyceps exploded in 1993, when a team of Chinese female athletes shattered several world distance records at the national championships. Their coach publicly attributed their performances to Cordyceps supplementation, propelling the mushroom onto the international stage.
Since then, several clinical trials (Chen et al., 2014; Hirsch et al., 2016; Dewi et al., 2025) have studied its role in VO2max, time to exhaustion and aerobic endurance. Hirsch's study notably demonstrated a significant improvement in VO2max after 3 weeks of Cordyceps militaris supplementation.
Today, Cordyceps is used by many amateur and professional athletes, in running, cycling, combat sports or fitness, to support aerobic performance and recovery.
What is cordycepin and how does it work?
Cordycepin (3'-deoxyadenosine) is a bioactive compound unique to Cordyceps. Discovered in 1950, it is today one of the most studied natural active ingredients in nutritional mycology.
At the cellular level, cordycepin is involved in energy metabolism and ATP production, the molecule that serves as "fuel" for cells. A recent study (Chai et al., 2022) demonstrated that cordycepin activates the TIGAR/SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway, involved in fatigue resistance and mitochondrial energy efficiency.
Cordyceps militaris is the species richest in cordycepin, making it the reference choice for modern dietary supplements.
When should I take Cordyceps for sports performance?
For sports use, Cordyceps can be taken 30 to 60 minutes before exercise, with a large glass of water. This pre-workout intake allows you to benefit from its effects on aerobic endurance and VO2max during the session.
For a non-sports daily course, taking it in the morning with breakfast is recommended, to support vitality and daily energy.
Clinical studies (Hirsch et al., 2016) show that the effects on performance are more pronounced after 3 weeks of continuous supplementation. A one-off intake just before a competition will not be enough to fully express the benefits of Cordyceps: it works through accumulation.
How long before I feel the effects?
Results vary from person to person. The reference study by Hirsch et al. (2016) demonstrated that significant improvements in VO2max and time to exhaustion appear after 3 weeks of continuous supplementation with Cordyceps militaris (4 g/day blend).
For non-sports use, some users report improved daily energy within the first few weeks, while others notice effects after a full 30-day course. To fully benefit from the properties of Cordyceps, a course of at least one month is recommended, renewable according to your needs.
Is Cordyceps considered a banned substance?
No. Cordyceps is not listed on the prohibited substances list by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is legally used by many amateur and professional athletes worldwide.
However, as a precaution, athletes subject to anti-doping controls are advised to verify the exact composition of their supplement with their federation before use, and to choose products from brands that are transparent about their formulation.
Our Cordyceps Nutrition•pro is a single-ingredient formula, free from controversial additives, manufactured in France, making it a suitable choice for the demands of athletes.
Can Cordyceps be combined with other sports supplements?
Yes, Cordyceps pairs particularly well with other supplements in a sports routine.
Relevant combinations: Cordyceps + creatine for strength and explosive sports; Cordyceps + BCAAs for muscle recovery; Cordyceps + magnesium to reduce cramps and support energy metabolism; Cordyceps + Reishi to combine daytime energy and nighttime recovery.
The Cordyceps + Lion's Mane combination is also interesting for sports requiring both physical performance and mental focus (combat sports, team sports, esports). If taking multiple supplements simultaneously, it is recommended to seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Are there any contraindications for Cordyceps?
Cordyceps is generally well tolerated, but certain precautions should be observed.
It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, due to insufficient safety data during these periods. Consumption is also not recommended for children and adolescents.
Individuals taking anticoagulant, antidiabetic or immunosuppressant medications should consult their doctor before use, as Cordyceps may interact with these classes of medications. If you have a known allergy to mushrooms, it is recommended to seek advice from a healthcare professional before use.
For adults only. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. A dietary supplement is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle.
Is Cordyceps vegan?
Yes. Our Cordyceps Nutrition•pro uses laboratory-cultivated Cordyceps militaris, which does not require the use of insects unlike wild Cordyceps sinensis. It is therefore a 100% plant-based option.
Our formula is packaged in plant-based capsules (HPMC) and contains no animal-derived ingredients. It is perfectly suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.
It is also gluten-free, lactose-free, GMO-free, no added sugar, no colorants and no artificial preservatives, making it a formula suited to specific diets and discerning consumers.
