The three causes of back-to-school fatigue

These claims come with a condition of use : they can only be used if the product is at least a source of the nutrient in question, that is, if it provides a significant quantity. And a decisive regulatory clarification: the claim applies to the nutrient, not to the product containing it. In other words, a brand cannot imply that its formula, as such, reduces fatigue. It can only indicate that the nutrient it provides contributes to this. This distinction explains why serious labels are worded so cautiously: it's not timidity, it's the law.
So remember the reflex: when faced with a promise of energy, look for which nutrient supports it and in what quantity. A product that displays "energy" in large letters without an identifiable nutrient behind it tells you nothing useful.
Vitamin D: a fall topic, but not for fatigue
September and October mark the return of vitamin D in all communications, and the subject is perfectly legitimate. But it is for bad reasons in a good portion of the messages you'll come across.
The seasonal factor is real. Vitamin D is synthesized in the skin under the effect of solar radiation, and at French latitudes, this synthesis becomes very low from October to March : the angle of incidence of the sun no longer allows for efficient production, regardless of time spent outdoors. The question of a maintenance intake during this period therefore legitimately arises.
But not for fatigue. Vitamin D does not haveany authorized claim regarding the reduction of fatigue. Its authorized claims are elsewhere, and they are solid:
- Contributes to normal functioning of the immune system, which is particularly relevant at the onset of the cold season.

A brand selling you vitamin D against back-to-school fatigue is therefore overstepping the line. This doesn't mean that vitamin D isn't an autumn topic: it absolutely is, for immunity and skeleton health, within the doses indicated on the label and with medical advice in case of treatment or doubt.

Excess iron is harmful. Unlike nutrients whose surplus is eliminated, iron accumulates. And fatigue is a symptom far too nonspecific to justify blind supplementation: it can come from iron deficiency, but also from dozens of other causes. Supplementing "just in case" amounts to gambling with a product whose excess poses a problem.
