Using magnitude-based inference, post-workout supplementation appears possibly more beneficial than pre-workout supplementation regarding lean mass, fat mass, and bench press strength. Mean changes for the pre-workout and post-workout groups were respectively 0.9 versus 2.0 kilos for lean mass, and minus 0.1 versus minus 1.2 kilo for fat mass.

This result must be read for what it is. Nineteen participants, four weeks, and above all no significant difference according to conventional statistical tests: the favorable conclusion regarding post-workout supplementation rests on an alternative analysis method, magnitude-based inference, which has been criticized for its tendency to transform fragile differences into affirmative conclusions. In other words, this is not proof, it's a lead.
The timing of creatine supplementation relative to exercise has recently been proposed as an important factor for optimizing muscle loading and performance gains, although there is currently no consensus on the ideal time for intake. Emerging data suggest superior benefits when creatine is consumed after exercise rather than before, but methodological limitations currently prevent any solid conclusion. Two practical clarifications.
